Indian Head Massage

How it works

Indian head massage is a traditional therapeutic practice originating in Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine. It focuses on the scalp, face, neck, shoulders, and upper arms, using a combination of gentle kneading, circular rubbing, and rhythmic tapping. These techniques stimulate blood flow, relax muscles, and encourage the free flow of energy. It can be performed with or without oils, and is often carried out with the recipient seated and fully clothed.

Benefits

  • Relieves tension – can ease muscle tightness in the neck, shoulders, and head.
  • Reduces headaches – helps alleviate tension headaches and migraine symptoms.
  • Promotes relaxation – supports stress reduction and a calmer mental state.
  • Improves circulation – enhances blood and oxygen flow to the scalp and upper body.
  • Supports hair health – may stimulate hair follicles and improve scalp condition.

What to expect in a session

A typical session lasts around 20–45 minutes. You’ll be seated in a comfortable chair, with our therapist working from behind you. Oils may be used for added nourishment and to enhance the massage experience, although this can be adapted to your preference. The massage starts with the upper back, shoulders, and neck before moving to the scalp and face.
